PGIMER’s Division of Endocrine and Breast Surgery ( Department of General Surgery ) organized a Breast Cancer Awareness programme on 19 October, 2024 aimed at educating the community on breast cancer early detection, and treatment.
At the event inauguration, Chief Guest Prof. Sushmita Ghoshal, Head of Radiotherapy at PGIMER, emphasized that breast cancer is treatable and curable with early detection. Dr. Pankaj Arora, Additional Professor of Hospital Administration, and Prof. Divya Dahiya from General Surgery, also stressed the importance of early detection in their addresses.
A notable highpoint of the event was the inspiring stories shared by breast cancer survivors, who bravely narrated their journeys of diagnosis, treatment, and recovery, offering hope to others facing similar battles. Their testimonies reinforced the importance of early detection and timely treatment.
The program also featured a skit performed by students of the National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE), which illustrated the critical role of breast cancer prevention and timely treatment. Participants were provided with easy-to-understand Hindi information booklets on self-breast examination, risk factors, and the importance of regular screening.
This awareness day underscored PGIMER’s commitment to combating breast cancer through education and proactive health management, with a message that together, we can make a difference.
